Royal Niger Company Sold Nigeria To The British -Burna Boy’s African Giant Album Sparks Social Media History Debate

Nigerians are reacting after learning the defunct Royal Niger Company, RNC, was responsible for handing over the protectorates that later became the modern day Nigeria to the British.

George Goldie, the administrator who played a major role in the founding of Nigeria.

For many who didn’t know, this latest revelation about this history was made in Nigerian superstar musician Burna Boy’s new album, African Giant.

The album, which is the singer’s fourth studio album, was released early Friday and had one of its tracks, entitled, Another Story (featuring Ghanaian rapper, Manifest) talk about the history of the company and the British colonial masters.

The company, whose part is now known today as Unilever, was said to have sold the territory to the British Government on 1 January 1900, for the sum of £865,000.

The British Government, 14 years later, amalgamated the southern and northern protectorates of this territory to what is now know as modern day Nigeria.
